The draw for the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells has been released and Maria, third-seeded for this tournament, received a bye in the first round.
In the second round Maria will play either Angela Haynes of the United States or Mara Santangelo of Italy. Maria has played Haynes once before in last years Hurricane Relief Fund exhibition match in Florida and won easily 6-2 6-1.
The first seed that Maria can meet is #25 seed Dinara Safina of Russia who won the Paris Gaz Open earlier this year.
Maria has played Indian Wells three times before. Last year she reached the 4th round which was her best result here. Maria gained 50 points here last year but they aren't counted in her ranking due to the 18th tournament rule.
