Maria moved back to the top of the world rankings with her French Open triumph earlier this month, and as runner-up at SW19 last year she will be a favourite to win her first Wimbledon title since 2004.
Sharapova was placed in a different half of the draw to Kvitova, four-times winner Serena Williams and world number two Victoria Azarenka.
